Terminator 2 - Judgment Day is one of the best action/sci-fi movies that has ever been put to screen. Though it may not seem like it has much to say about the human condition, it actually has a few things to say. Add to that a little bit of campy dialog and action and some wonderful cinematography and you are left with a very charming movie.

The story takes a small group of people, the Conners and the original Terminator, and pits them against a much more powerful force. The T-1000 is as indestructible to the original Terminator as he was to the Conners when he first showed up in the first movie.

The heroes are trying to save the world from a global take over from the soon to be sentient machines. Sarah decides that it is possible to change the future, and goes on a quest to destroy the person that originally designed the terminators. They think that they have won by the end of the movie, but it turns out that they only delayed the, apparently, inevitable.

There is a lot about fate in this movie. Fate and destiny are recurring themes throughout the series. Strangely, there is a lot about changing fate, changing the future. There is a little bit of a modern political argument that can be seen here. Environmentalists say that humans are destroying the planet with pollution, but that we can still change the future and save the planet. This argument may or may not hold water, but what is safe to say is that it is a big topic, and this movie was on top of it a long time before it came into the mainstream of politics.

There is also the issue of the status of the mental health system in America. Even though the audience knows that she is not crazy, and that the future really is going to be dominated by robots in the future, the people in the present are all too quick to throw Sarah into a mental health lock-up because of her wild claims.

Everyone treats her like she is nuts. The filmmakers may be trying to say that this is part of the problem with our system. If someone says something that seems outlandish, it must be mental illness. Granted what she was saying did seem very crazy, and maybe they were trying to point out how hard it was to be Sarah Conner and not really saying anything bad about our health care system, but it seems fair that it could be saying something about both.

The major issue of fate is that of John Conner. He is supposed to be this great savior of mankind, and yet he isn't even really sure that he believes it. He is just a kid trying to get by and living with a mother who is probably crazy. He has no idea what to believe, and yet the audience knows what to believe - he's going to kick some robot butt when he gets older.

Strangely, without those robots showing up in Terminator 2 - Judgment day, there would be a very different story. Instead of a story rife with adventure and excitement, it would be a story of a boy being raised by a crazy woman who is teaching him to be a militant. There would be a lot of issues that could follow this, but with the Terminators showing up it ends up being a story that is more action than a sad story of modern day life for a broken family. - 40731

The Last Dragon is a film that was produced by Motown Records in the mid eighties as a sort of a Kung Fu comedy flick. He tries to egg Bruce Leroy into a fight so that he can prove, once and for all, who the strongest fighter in the city is. Every time he steps on scene, it's with a short speech, aided by his lackeys. "Am I the prettiest?!" "SHO NUFF!" "Am I the baddest?!" "SHO NUFF!" "Am I the meanest, leanest mofo around dis town?!" "SHO NUFF!" "SHO'NUFF! Da Shogun of Harlem!" He wears visor sunglasses, a samurai's hakama (those baggy pants that disguise foot movement), and shoulder pads, as well as a top knot... He looks ridiculous and he's just a joy to behold.

If there's one downside to the movie, it's the whole subplot about the Cyndi Lauper wannabe singer and her promoter/boyfriend. He's trying to play hardball in order to get her played on the local music show, and... Well, it's just not really the high point of the movie. It's not too much of a distraction, but you'll find yourself wishing they'd just get back to the kung fu already.

And of course, it does pay off in the end when the manager hires all the baddest dudes in the city to have it out with Bruce Leroy and his students. These "bad dudes" include a big fat old white guy with a Mister T Mohawk and an all gold one piece suit... Yep, real bad dudes, these guys.

There are also some really fun, corny moments along the way. At one point, Leroy tries to seek wisdom from the guy who writes the fortune cookies at the local Chinese restaurant, only to find that they're written by a computer. Therein he finds that zen wisdom of emptiness and being.

Could the movie have been better without the weird subplot about the record promoter? Sure, but even so, it's one of the all time classic eighties flicks, and one of the best attempts at spoofing the Kung Fu genre while at the same time honoring it. It's also just plain a whole lot of fun.

The master stroke of his plan is that none of his opponents suspect him of a thing, as he is, after all, just a kid. He essentially manages to play dumb and innocent, while in fact outsmarting everyone around him.

The movie can be brutally violent and shocking, which drives home the reality of Fresh's situation. The villains are truly menacing, especially the young thug who typically gives Fresh his payments and is in a perpetual state of planning to kill somebody. Fresh is a hero who manages to remain pure, knowing where he can compromise and where he cannot.

The movie is really unlike any other. We've seen movies where the hero schemes their way out of trouble, rather than fighting or using guns, but rarely do we see a movie where that hero is a ten year old boy, rarely do we see a film with a child hero in a violent situation without being a fantasy family film like Home Alone. Randy has lived a self destructive lifestyle, and he's paying the price for it. He's lost touch with his family, and while there's a real bond between him and the boys in the locker room, he doesn't really have anyone that's truly close to him. So the movie follows him as he attempts to make a comeback and reunite with his daughter.

The movie is heart wrenching, incredibly emotional, and while it shows Randy as he is, as a man who has hurt himself and others with his lifestyle, it never judges him or looks down on him. Randy the Ram is a lovable guy, and it becomes tragic that all cannot be forgiven so easily.

Again, Rourke really knocks it out of the park. The movie is just as much Rourke's story as it is Randy's. It's interesting to note, Nicholas Cage almost had this role, but actually passed on it so that his friend Rourke could have the opportunity.

This resulted in a smaller budget which actually helps to improve the movie. Randy wrestles for smaller crowds, not packed stadiums with the WWE, so this really drives home his passion. Whether he's wrestling for a few dozen or a few thousand, he always gives every last drop of sweat and blood to the ring.

It's an old story with cliche characters, but it never feels that way. Because it's imbued with such humanity and honesty, it feels fresh and new, despite the fact that we've all heard of the down-on-his-luck fighter before.

The movie manages to warm your heart and break it at the same time. It's something like Rocky meets Raging Bull in the world of sports movies, and the ending carries a double meaning. Lester is the father of a rebellious daughter and a bitchy and bossy wife. He hates his boring life and his job is becoming uninspiring as well. He is entering into a classic midlife crisis.

Carolyn is a materialistic woman who is very bitchy. She has a real estate career herself and is always looking to make money and improve her status. She starts to cheat on her husband with a married man she feels is more motivated like she is.

Jane is a teenager who feels unwanted. Her best friend is a sexy girl appearing to have it all. Even her dad has the hots for her friend Angela, and Jane can see it.

Lester finally starts to unravel. He quits his job, starts smoking pot, gets a job at a fast food restaurant, and starts to live life for himself. He quits taking crap from his wife. He fantasizes

Jane finds a boyfriend in the new kid next door, Ricky. Ricky is a strange kid with a tough family life himself. His father is a closet homosexual with a strict military background. This has left his mother as a dominated shell of a woman. Ricky sells pot, and becomes Lester's supplier and friend.

Initially receiving attention at Los Angeles' Screamfest, the small budget independent film entitled Paranormal Activity sat on the shelf for almost two years until Paramount Pictures took the reins and edited the film's conclusion.

Many famous people have interest in this movie. Steven Spielberg is rumored to have assisted in the changes to the final scene.

The main characters are few. Katie and Micah are a young couple having minor relationship struggles, but they are clearly in love and supportive of one another.

As the movie begins the couple is relocating to San Diego. Soon the couple realizes that there is something wrong in the their new home. They begin to believe that the home is haunted, and then Katie tells another story. A story of a poltergeist that may have have killed her sister in the past.

Micah is not necessarily convinced, so he attempts to make video recordings of any potential spirit activities that occur during the nighttime hours.

Eventually, Micah captures some curious and inexplicable activity on video. At that point, he is persuaded of the presence of the poltergeist, which he succeeds in provoking further.

They decide it may be a good idea to enlist the help of a specialist. Unfortunately, the paranormal expert that came to the home said the ghost was to evil for him to help with.

As the movie continues Micah proceeds to aggravate the ghost in any way. Micah even decides to get a Ouija board to see if the ghost will begin to communicate with them. All of these activities lead to a dramatic ending.

This is a very strong effort, albeit in a minor key, and shows how economical you can be with a story line and still keep the audience riveted for ninety minutes.

Overall I found Paranormal Activity very entertaining and quite scary at times. This is definitely a film worth seeing if you're in the mood to be scared. - 40731
