From Paris With Love - Action Packed

By Victoria Skinner

A furiously action packed film, From Paris with Love takes the audience on a wild ride all the way through with its fast paced unforgettable scenes and many blazing guns. For lovers of action movies that carry some suspense and other scenes that are a cause for much debate afterward, this is the movie to see.

The story begins with the main character, James Reese, a part that is portrayed by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. This character, seen here as a personal aide to the U. S. Ambassador assigned to France, is an effective diplomat who has won his employer's trust as he executes his duties to an exact science.

Unknown to his employer, Reese has a sideline ambition to become a full fledged CIA operative and he has been taking on minor assignments during his diplomatic capacity as an aide. All of this activity is shared in confidence with his lovely French fiancee Caroline (played by Kasia Smutniak).

The otherwise quietly exciting secret life of James Reese takes a completely different turn once he finally gets his big break from his CIA contact who assigns him a CIA special agent as a partner, Charlie Wax. Wax is an uncouth, misbehaving yet effective agent, played by multi-awarded actor John Travolta.

John Travolta's sudden appearance in this movie is enough to get the viewers excited, as it is certain that the twists and turns of the storyline are about to begin. Travolta carries his character's obnoxious and rude personality all the way through the action scenes with his classic style and flair.

From smuggling a gun past airport security officials, to killing off goons in a Chinese restaurant connected to a drug supply ring, Wax shows Reese a very different side to the otherwise dignified concept of a CIA agent. This is where Reese starts to learn that not all secret agents are as suave and smooth as James Bond, as his new partner is the complete picture of all that is not ideal.

Once in the city, Reese finds that his partner is not like any agent he has ever imagined, and Wax proves this to him time and again as he shoots and bombards his way into drug dens and alleyways to complete his mission. Explaining that his mission is but a simple drug syndicate bust assigned by an angry government official, Wax takes on drug lords and goons with precision and timing, but always with noise.

The truth is finally revealed when Wax tells Reese about his real purpose, which is to find a group of terrorists that has a plot to bomb the U. S. Embassy in France, and are apparently being financed by sales of cocaine. It is later on that Reese finally learns that his fiancee also plays a role and is a member of this terrorist group, willing to die for a cause.

The entire story comes full circle when a suicide bomber actually succeeds in making it into the U. S. Embassy in the guise of a delegate attending a summit. It also reaches its climax when Reese comes to the conclusion that it is his fiancee who has been chosen to die for the cause.

Trying to talk her out of activating the bomb, Reese ultimately fails and has too shoot Caroline as she makes the attempt to blow up the summit anyway. As she falls from the bullet wound on her forehead, Wax catches her and manages to disarm the bomb, while Reese looks on.

James Reese goes through many changes in his character as this movie progresses, as he slowly comes to realize that being a secret agent is a brutal game that needs to be played wisely. By the end of this movie, Reese becomes a changed man and begins to take on traits not far from those of Charlie Wax. - 40731
